72 Gazans Killed by Israeli Fire Near Aid Center

Gaza Civilian Deaths: 72 Killed by Israeli Gunfire Near Aid Center

International Article

Gaza civilian deaths spiked this week after Israeli troops opened fire and killed 72 Palestinians, including several near a humanitarian aid distribution center. Local health officials confirmed the fatalities, and international observers raised alarms about worsening conditions in the region.

Witnesses said many unarmed civilians had gathered for food and medical supplies when gunfire broke out. Several people collapsed before reaching the trucks. Human rights organizations immediately called for an independent investigation.

📍 Gunfire Erupts Near Crowds Waiting for Aid

The shooting took place in southern Gaza, where thousands of residents gathered around aid trucks. Volunteers from Doctors Without Borders said panic broke out as soon as the first shots were fired.

“We began setting up the food line,” said one worker, “and then the shooting started. People screamed and ran. Some didn’t make it.”

🛡️ Israel Defends Operation, Promises Investigation

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed they were targeting threats from militants. An IDF spokesperson added, “Our operations never aim at civilians, and we are reviewing the situation closely.”

Despite their response, international pressure continues to mount. Human rights groups argue that Israel must take responsibility for the rising civilian death toll.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) condemned the violence and urged Israel to guarantee the safety of aid delivery zones.

🌍 World Leaders React to Gaza Civilian Deaths

World governments quickly condemned the attack. The European Union called for restraint, while Turkey and Egypt demanded immediate accountability. A U.S. State Department official said the reports were “deeply troubling” and urged Israel to protect civilians and aid workers.

The International Committee of the Red Cross also weighed in:

“Humanitarian zones must remain safe. Attacking civilians or disrupting aid work violates international law.”
